Mexican consulates are facing a problem with appointments. Many people complain and are upset by the lack of attention. President Claudia Sheinbaum made it clear that the way in which the representations operate will be modified, for the benefit of the compatriots.

It is not new or surprising that many Mexicans living abroad, mainly in the United States, complain and are upset about the attention they receive in the various Mexican consulates throughout the country, which is why the president Claudia Sheinbaum He made it clear that the way in which the representations operate will be modified, for the benefit of the compatriots.

"The way consulates operate will be modified. That is the main function of the foreign minister. He is working on it in several ways," said the Mexican president during her morning press conference on Friday, October 18.

Sheinbaum clarified that, among the improvements, there will be the issuance of birth and death certificates, procedures that have to do with each of the 32 entities of Mexico and not with the federation, since civil registries are legally linked to the states.

"We are also working on coordinating the 32 entities of the Republic with the consular system to facilitate the issuance of birth certificates, death certificates or any procedure related to civil registration," he stressed.

He added that this will be accompanied by the simplification of the issuance of voter ID cards, which are handled by the National Electoral Institute, and the consulate will provide the space for the process to take place.

And, he said, the mismanagement, the complexity of the paperwork for some documents, as well as coyote trafficking, are not the responsibility of Mexicans abroad.

"It is not the responsibility of our migrant brothers and sisters. It is not the responsibility of our compatriots who live on the other side that the care is not correct, it is the responsibility of the consulates, that is why the way the consulates provide care must be modified so that their main function is to care for Mexicans who live, in particular, in the United States, but not only," explained Sheinbaum.

To this end, he said, Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente is already working on these changes and will present them soon.

Finally, he stressed that Mexico must make progress in facilitating procedures abroad.

"We also need to make progress in facilitating procedures so that it is much easier for Mexicans living abroad to access everything they need."
