M ico president Claudia Sheinbaum asked M ico councils in the United States to have a closer relationship with the Mexican migrant community in general, and not only with those "well-known" or "relevant" people who request a particular appointment with them.
The assignment was given during the Meeting of Ambassadors and Consuls (REC) of this year, held this week, where the same president specified that one of the most important issues for the government is the support to Mexicans abroad, especially in the United States.
The above, in response to threats from the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, who will take office on January 20, and who has made threats of mass deportations of undocumented immigrants in the country.
"One of the most important issues for us is supporting Mexicans abroad, particularly in the United States," said Claudia Sheinbaum.
"I said it the other day here in the manner, what I raised with the councilors is that, sometimes, by not having contact, especially the spaces that provide direct service to the citizens, whether in Mexico or abroad, when one is not in contact with the person who receives that service and that support, sometimes, one does not know what is happening," the president stressed.
And she said that she is used to this approach with the citizens, just as she did when she was head of the Tlalpan delegation and then of the government of the City of Mico.
In this regard, he reiterated that the call to the councils was the same: closeness to fellow citizens and listening to and understanding their needs, concerns and problems.
