COVID-19: Doctors in Mexico denounce vaccine irregularities

Pamela Cruz. Peninsula 360 Press [P360P].

Yesterday, December 30, medical personnel demonstrated on the Periferico Oriente, from noon until around two in the afternoon, at the height of Jacarandas, in front of the Military Hospital "El Vergel", where they complained about not receiving their first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19, because staff notified them that they were suspended.

Faced with the discomfort and concern about continuing to work without having more protection than what they carry in their equipment, the protesters closed the traffic in the direction of Cuemanco, waiting for authorities to listen to their request to be immunized.

The demonstration is in addition to a previous one held on December 25, when doctors and nurses at the hospital La Raza, belonging to the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), denounced that they were not given the vaccine against COVID-19.

At that time, they said that the 22 doses of vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 virus from Pfizer-BioNTech pharmaceuticals, intended for that hospital on those dates, were not applied to those facing COVID in the front line, but to hospital managers.

Animal Politico reported that the protesters carried banners that read "Vaccine the operative, not the manager", "Selfish and inhumane managers", "No applause, yes vaccine", "Doctors and nurses carried banners that read "Vaccine the operative, not the manager".

So, last week, the head of the IMSS, Zoé Robledo, was questioned about the allegations of doctors and nurses, however, he denied what happened and said that only a manager was vaccinated.

The official also stressed that the 22 people selected to be vaccinated belong to various categories such as doctors, residents, nurses, radiologists, chemists, ambulance people, and cleaning, among others.

In that sense, he said that there is an important criterion for the selection of those who should be vaccinated first, because it starts with those most vulnerable, who work in the area of COVID, and have risk factors such as being over 60 years or have a chronic degenerative disease.

In addition to the above, yesterday afternoon, the Ministry of Health of the State of Mexico reported that it will sanction the director of the Medical Center "Lic. Adolfo Lopez Mateos", this after being identified on social networks as #LordVacuna, after having sneaked his family in line to be immunized against COVID-19.

The case began to resonate on social networks on December 29, where several users revealed the doctor's alleged identity and baptized him as #LordVacuna, a title that reached great relevance on Twitter.

After the situation, the health agency detailed that the director of the medical center will face sanctions, first, by the internal control body of the Secretariat of Health, and then give sight to the Comptroller General of the State of Mexico.

Similarly, he announced that the filter of registration of candidates to receive the vaccine will be strengthened "in order to prevent these practices from being repeated".
