COVID-19 testing is becoming more widely available across the United States. Including at many COVID-19 testing sites, primarily at universities within the UC system, some California college students now have the option of self-testing at home, which is available 24 hours a day on campus.
The most recent debut of COVID-19 testing machines was at UCLA. Machines have also begun appearing at UC and San Diego State University as students return to in-person instruction at all three campuses.
Throughout the pandemic, these universities have implemented strict regulations as a result of the coronavirus variant to keep students safe, including requiring proof of vaccination to return to in-person classes. Periodic testing is also encouraged to keep the spread to a minimum.
The tests are free for UCLA students,: Each week, students receive 2 days on their BruinCard, or school ID, to purchase these tests at vending machines. “Anyone with an active BruinCard can get up to two self-testing kits,” the Student Health and Wellness Center said. “Anyone with an active BruinCard can receive up to two self-test kits each week using the vending machines available on campus,” said UCLA Arthur Ashe Student Health & Wellness Center on its website
