A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Thornton Avenue and an Interstate 880 exit ramp in Newark early Friday morning killed at least one person and seriously injured two others, according to the Fremont Police Department.
Fremont Police received emergency calls around 2:30 a.m. Friday where a crash was reported. Officers and first responders were dispatched to the intersection and found two vehicles with major damage.
A preliminary investigation determined that one vehicle was traveling westbound on Thornton Avenue and the second vehicle was traveling northbound on the exit ramp.
According to a witness interviewed by police, the vehicle exiting the freeway had a green light, while the vehicle traveling on Thornton struck it.
The two drivers and a passenger in one of the vehicles were transported to a hospital with major injuries. The passenger later died from those injuries, Fremont police said.
The identity of the passenger has not been released, as family members have not yet been notified.
Officers are still investigating the collision and believe alcohol may have been a factor.
