An East Palo Alto police officer was injured Thursday night in a shooting.
At 11:00 p.m. Thursday, the officer stopped a Dodge Charger in the area of Fordham Street and Purdue Avenue for a vehicle code violation.
Police said the driver fled the stop and officers pursued the suspect on foot to the 2700 block of Fordham Street, where a fight broke out where the suspect shot an officer.
The officer was able to help apprehend the suspect. There were no shots fired by the officers, according to police.
The injured officer, a veteran of the East Palo Alto Police Department, suffered a lower extremity injury that was not considered life-threatening, authorities said.
The suspect, identified as Willie Wiley, 44, of East Palo Alto, was taken into custody.
Police said the firearm used to shoot the officer was a "ghost gun" converted to a fully automatic with a high-capacity magazine.
