California Health Officials Urge Preventive Measures for Influenza, COVID and RSV

By Eli Walsh. Bay City News.

California health officials on Wednesday urged citizens to take steps to protect themselves from viruses circulating this winter, including influenza, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus "RSV."

Given this, the health authorities have called on state residents to get vaccinated against COVID and the flu if they are eligible and seek treatment for any of the viruses if necessary.

Those who are sick are also encouraged to stay home and wear a mask indoors, particularly to protect children from RSV, for which there is no vaccine.

“We are seeing stress in our clinics and hospitals that care for children, especially infants and children under 12 years of age,” state public health officer and director of the California Department of Public Health, Dr. Tomas Aragon, said in a statement. "It's important to remember that children get infected from other children and adults, so everyone needs to do their part."

Flu and COVID vaccines are available to everyone 6 months and older.
