The Glide Foundation will pack 5,500 bags of Christmas groceries this week and provide them to the needy in San Francisco.
So, bags of groceries with ingredients for a holiday meal for four, including a free-range chicken or turkey, potatoes and rice, will be delivered Wednesday, Dec. 8, officials with the charity that helps the homeless said.
Preparation for the big annual drawing for these bags will begin this Monday and continue on Tuesday, while the packing will be done with the help of Glide leaders, staff and volunteers.
They will be delivered Wednesday to community organizations throughout San Francisco that help low-income residents in the hardest-hit neighborhoods, including Bayview, Outer Mission, Richmond, Chinatown and Japantown.
"With nearly two years of pandemic and inflation on the rise, economic uncertainty and food insecurity are at an all-time high," said Glide President and CEO Karen Hanrahan.
"GLIDE is meeting this challenge by reaching out to some of the most disadvantaged neighborhoods and providing food and comfort to those who need it most," he added.
