Due to the increase in oil prices in the country, the price of gasoline has increased in the Bay Area. The counties that make up the Bay Area have suffered the escalating cost per gallon of fuel, which has directly affected the pockets of residents.
The state average, the highest in the nation, was $4.680 per gallon a week ago; a month ago it was $4.652 and $3.475 a year ago.
Meanwhile, San Francisco is currently the county in the Bay Area that has suffered the most from rising gasoline prices, registering a cost of $4.892 per gallon.
Drivers have seen gas prices rise in the Bay Area, especially in Napa, Sonoma and San Mateo, which trail San Francisco in cost.
Gas price increases in the Bay Area, however, only Solano County had a lower average price than the statewide average, and the difference was only by a penny, according to Monday figures from the Automobile Association of America's website at gasprices.aaa.com.
Average regular gasoline prices in dollars per gallon in counties in the region are 4.892 for San Francisco; 4.885 in Napa; 4.862 in Sonoma; 4.832 in San Mateo; 4.809 in Marin; 4.794 for San Benito; 4.781 in Monterey; 4.759 in Santa Clara; 4.757 for Alameda; 4.748 in Contra Costa; 4.718 in Santa Cruz; and 4.693 in Solano.
Things are not looking good statewide, as California motorists are paying two cents more for a gallon of regular gas than they were a month ago, as the statewide average rose to $4.702 per gallon.
It is worth noting that the national average is $3.488 per gallon, almost five cents more than a week ago and 18 cents more than a month ago. The national average a year ago was $2.505 per gallon, an increase of 98 cents.
Crude oil prices have risen sharply, driven mainly by a possible invasion of Ukraine by Russia, in which the U.S. seeks to play a leading role.
