A midweek heat wave is forecast for the inner Bay Area, and the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management has issued advice for residents to stay cool in the heat.
Temperatures in inland areas are likely to hover around 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and even reach 100 degrees in some hot spots, primarily along the eastern border of the Bay Area, closer to the Central Valley, according to the Weather Service. Bay Area National.
A heat advisory was issued Tuesday for inland parts of Napa, Sonoma, Contra Costa and Alameda counties, which will last through Thursday, the Weather Service said. The advisory will be expanded Wednesday to Santa Clara, San Benito and the eastern end of Monterey County.
Temperatures should drop a bit through Thursday, according to the Weather Service.
With this in mind, it is suggested that people affected by the intense heat should stay in a cool place, drink plenty of water, wear light clothing and hats, shower, and close blinds during the day, according to the Department of Emergency Management.
In addition, it is called to avoid being outdoors between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., do not engage in strenuous activities and avoid sugar, alcohol, caffeine and foods rich in protein, the department said.
Likewise, drink water and cool down immediately if you feel tired, weak or dizzy, have a headache or muscle cramps, or sweat a lot, the department said.
