Tolling began Friday morning on the new express lanes of the US 101 freeway in San Mateo County between south San Francisco and Sunnyvale.
The new lanes will operate on the 101 Freeway Monday through Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. between Interstate 380 in south San Francisco and North Mathilda Avenue in Sunnyvale.
Solo drivers wishing to use the express lane must have a standard FasTrak or FasTrak Flex electronic toll device, while carpool and motorcycle users must have the FasTrak Flex electronic toll device in the proper position for discounted travel.
The lanes, built by Caltrans in collaboration with the San Mateo County Transportation Authority and the San Mateo County City/County Association of Governments, are intended to encourage carpooling or the use of public transportation, as well as improve travel times and reduce congestion on the highway.
More details about the project can be found on the website https://smcexpresslanes.org/.
