The President of the USA, Joseph Biden is up for re-election, officially announced this morning that he will run for re-election in 2024 and asked voters to give him more time to "finish the job" he started when he took office on January 20, 2021.
President Joseph Biden, who would be 81 years old on Election Day in November 2024, is betting that his legislative achievements so far in his first term, as well as his more than 50 years of experience in Washington, will count for more than said qualms about his age.
In a video of just over three minutes published on his social networks, on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the date on which he announced his presidential campaign, Biden indicated that he will continue to continue the objective of healing the "soul of the nation", after the troubled presidency of Donald Trump.
He stressed that “personal freedom is fundamental to who we are as Americans. There is nothing more important, nothing more sacred. That has been the work of my first term: fighting for democracy.
In the video, titled "Let's Finish the Job," he added that "this shouldn't be a red or blue issue: protecting our rights, making sure everyone in this country is treated the same and that everyone gets a fair chance."
However, he said, the extremist Republicans of MAGA - Make America Great Again - are attacking the "fundamental freedoms of Americans, cutting Social Security ... dictating what health decisions women can make, banning books and telling people who They can love, all this, while making it difficult for you to vote."
He stated that, as in 2020, “the question we face is whether in the coming years we will have more freedom or less freedom, more rights or less? And I know what I want the answer to be. This is not the time to be complacent. That's why I'm running for re-election."
“Every generation of Americans has faced a moment where they have had to defend democracy, defend our personal liberties, and defend our right to vote and our civil rights. This is ours. Let's finish the job," he said.
Vice President Kamala Harris will once again be his running mate, as announced at the same time through his social networks.
“Our Administration defends democracy. We defend the founding and fundamental principles of liberty, liberty and equality for all people," he recalled.
He also highlighted the achievements that have been delivered to working families, such as record job growth, the best two years on record for small business creation, the largest investment in climate action in history, and the fastest-growing manufacturing in decades. "And we're just getting started."
It should be noted that the country continues to deal with the scars of a pandemic that has claimed the lives of more than 1.1 million people, with inflation that has declined from all-time highs but remains problematic for consumers.
Americans also remain deeply divided, reeling from the loss of the federal right to abortion, mass shootings, and disasters due to climate change.
