The school Orion of alternative elementary education, this week celebrates inclusion with a week full of color and messages that help small students with giant minds to strengthen the value of inclusion in their daily lives.

With this week dedicated to inclusion, Orion celebrates its commitment to provide a supportive and quality education to all students, recognizing that each one of them is unique, gifted and talented. 

"When differences are celebrated, you create an inclusive, kind and respectful community, which enhances learning for all," the school said in an email. 

To strengthen the action, the children dressed on Monday with some red garment, alluding to respect; for this Tuesday the color to wear is green for friendship; Blue Wednesday for belonging; purple Thursday for positivity; and Orange Friday to offer friendship.

All those who are part of this Orion School community in Redwood City are invited to participate in the activity that will undoubtedly fill the community with color and values.

Orion Alternative Elementary is defined as a “School of Choice”, an unrestricted program within the Redwood City School District “RCSD”, which means that it does not use an address and/or neighborhood to determine enrollment priority. 

The Orion program is a model of cooperation between parents who want to be actively involved in their children's education, who agree to participate in classroom or school activities, parent education, and school leadership activities throughout the year. .

“We believe that when parents and educators work together in a close-knit community, children gain confidence, self-awareness, and motivation to succeed. Orion's mission is to focus on the education of the whole child and to form compassionate global citizens," Orion highlights on its website.

It should be noted that families are invited to the classrooms and actively participate in the life of the school. "Research shows that this enhanced understanding enables parents and guardians to more easily support their child's educational journey socially, emotionally, and academically."

Likewise, the elementary school details that the voice of the families is incorporated into decision-making throughout the center and the updating of policies in areas that support strategic planning, such as the modification of the statutes of the School Council and the voting for new members, and as a result, parents and guardians have a greater sense of ownership and belonging. 

“Students see their parents and guardians as part of their education. This provides a greater feeling of support and encouragement, and facilitates the development of student self-confidence while increasing motivation in the classroom.”
