California Expands Paid Family Leave to Workers Like Never Before

Paid family leave and disability leave have increased at historic levels in the state of California, while workers earning more than that threshold will receive 70 percent of their salary. Both represent a significant increase, and the benefits began with new applications filed as of January 1, 2025.

The Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California has increased paid family leave and disability benefits to historic levels in the state, and that eligible workers who earn less than $63,000 per year can now receive up to 90 percent of their regular wages while on leave.
