The Governor Gavin Newsom issued a proclamation Sunday declaring September 11, 2022 as Patriot Day in the State of California.

"This September 11 marks 21 years since the unthinkable attacks of September 11, 2001 took nearly three thousand lives and irrevocably changed our world," noted the proclamation issued yesterday.

He noted that each year since then, the somber anniversary has been commemorated as Patriot Day "to remember those we lost and to honor the brave first responders and men and women from all walks of life who took action to protect their fellow Americans."

Newsom noted that, while reflecting on the past 21 years, it also commemorates the service members who answered the nation's call after the attacks. "We will never forget their sacrifices to protect our cherished freedoms and way of life."

To add to the proclamation, this Sunday, September 11, Newsom ordered all flags on state buildings to fly at half-staff.

"Let us pay tribute to the American heroes we have lost and recommit ourselves to the values of equality, opportunity and freedom for which our nation stands," he said.
