To start with the Pride month celebrations in Redwood City, the city will have the raising of the Rainbow Flag, which is a symbol of the fight for LGBTTTIQ+ rights and which seeks to make visible each of the groups that represent it.
Join the celebration this Wednesday, May 31 at 5:30 p.m. at Courthouse Plaza, located at 2200 Broadway Street in Redwood City.
The welcome and opening remarks will be given by Mayor Jeff Gee and Dana Johnson, LGBTQ+ Commissioner, Co-Chair of the PRIDE Initiative and Board Member of the CoastPride Center for San Mateo County, who will share their thoughts on this iconic celebration.
Be a part of this ceremony and witness the hoisting of the vibrant Pride Flag, a symbol of love, acceptance and equality.
During the event, “Alex is a Queen”, a captivating short film that explores the journey of self-discovery and self-expression, will be premiered and launched. The film will be presented by Tony Gapastione, director of the mini film.
In turn, there will be a screening of the film "Kinky Boots", a classic of British cinema that presents a moving story that celebrates diversity, acceptance and the power to embrace the true self.
Have fun taking one or more photos at the Heart of Pride booth, strike your best pose and share your Pride and love.
In addition to the fun and culture, the City Council will offer a resource table, where attendees will find valuable information from the Pride Center, the San Mateo County LGBTQ+ Commission and the library.
