This Tuesday afternoon, Redwood City police opened fire on a gunman on a section of El Camino Real, who was traveling in a vehicle with a woman and three minors.
The boss of the redwood city police department, Dan Mulholland, declared before the media that police elements went to the El Camino Real area after an emergency call to 911 at 3:19 in the afternoon, in which the voice of an upset woman was heard, but did not provide information.
"Our operators were able to hear the voice of a woman who was emotional, uplifted, and appeared to be calling for children who could also be heard on the 911 call. That person did not respond to the operator's attempt to open the call," Mulholland said.
Police officers were able to locate the caller's vehicle, so they went to the scene on El Camino Real, between Vera and Roosevelt streets, where officers found an incident of domestic violence.
According to the Redwood City Police, the agents tried to talk to the subject, but they realized that he, with a firearm, tried to use the children as a shield and tried to shoot the woman and/or the children, therefore that the agents responded "with lethal force" against the subject.
The man was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, none of the officers were injured.
The woman who accompanied the subject suffered minor bodily injuries, which were treated at the scene by emergency services; the children aged 1, 4 and 10, respectively, did not suffer any type of injury.
A video circulates on social networks in which the detonations are heard and the officers can be observed at the time of the events.
