The nomination period for apply for the Redwood City Council for the November 5, 2024 election has already begun. Starting this Monday, July 15 and until Friday, August 9, potential candidates can register for the race.

Requirements for the position
A person must be a resident and voter of the Redwood City City Council district in which he or she seeks nomination for at least 30 days immediately preceding the appointment or the final day of filing of the nomination in order to become a candidate for the office of Council Member. City Council.

Any person, regardless of sex, who is 18 years of age or older, a citizen, a resident of Redwood City, a registered voter, and who is not disqualified by the Constitution or the laws of California from holding civil office, is eligible for election or appointment. member of the City Council without further requirements.
Under Redwood City's district election system and newly established boundary maps, voters will only elect a council member to the City Council based on the district in which they are registered to vote.
City Council seats in Wards 1, 3, 4, and 7 will be up for election in 2024, so voters in Wards 2, 5, and 6 will not vote to elect a council member during these elections.
In the November 5 elections, the seats currently occupied by councilors whose current terms by accumulation will end in November 2024 will be elected: Jeff Gee (District 1), Lissette Espinoza-Garnica (District 3), Elmer Martínez Saballos (District 4), and Alicia Aguirre (District 7).
