The organization Redwood City Education Foundation expressed his firm commitment to supporting families in the community, early childhood education and equity, in the face of the changes that will be brought about by the arrival of President-elect Donald Trump to the White House.
In a statement issued to city residents at large, the nonprofit organization acknowledges that in the wake of the election results, there is a time of reflection and resolution, which may, for many, be taking time to process, connect, and consider what this moment means for the future.
"We are doing the same at the Redwood City Education Foundation (RCEF). We want you to know that we remain firmly committed to supporting our families and providing stability in the face of change," she says.
She highlights that the Redwood City School District is home to families from many backgrounds, speaking more than 35 languages, practicing different religions and carrying stories shaped by resilience and hope.
In that sense, she points out that, for some, the generational journey to the city involved overcoming difficulties: forced migration, suffering violence or seeking refuge from persecution. "These stories, although unique, come together in Redwood City, where we share a common purpose: to build a future in which every child has the opportunity to prosper."
The Redwood City Education Foundation acknowledged that among the changes that will come with the new federal administration is the imminent cut in education funding, which will affect vulnerable students, especially those from undocumented families.
“As we look ahead, we know that cuts to education funding are imminent, along with potential changes affecting protections for students with diverse gender identities and expressions, as well as initiatives that promote equity and inclusion. These changes may also impact undocumented families in our community, adding new challenges for some of our most vulnerable students,” she adds.
However, he points out and specifies that the support provided by this organization to families, schools and the community will not stop and, on the contrary, will commit to various actions.
Among the commitments are defending educational equity, through efforts to address educational disparities and provide essential resources to students who need them most; as well as protecting the right of every child to learn by promoting student access to education and ensuring that all students have a safe and inclusive environment in which to grow and learn.
They are also committed to supporting students' identities and well-being by investing in mental health and social-emotional learning programs, centering students' identities, emotions, and lived experiences in their education.
The agency also explains that it will support educators, recognizing their essential role in providing space for students to express themselves and explore their civic paths.
“We are committed to advocating for the training and resources they need to nurture and empower young people, teach resilience, and foster community and belonging in every classroom.”
Finally, he explains that these efforts are a shared effort with parents, the school district, the city and the community.
“Together, we have an influential role in building the future. Thank you for your continued support as we move forward with urgency and strength, ensuring that Redwood City remains a place where every child can thrive,” she said.
