Day of the Dead Walk Returns to San Jose

¡Gardner Health Services' Day of the Dead Run-Walk andis back in 2021! And this time with a special meaning, as the event is dedicated to the millions of lives lost worldwide due to COVID-19, almost 2 thousand people in San Jose.

The event will take place this Saturday, October 30 from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon, and seeks to honor all frontline workers who continue to heroically confront the pandemic and who have helped our communities safely over the past year and a half.

In addition, the fundraising run/walk will safely bring together patients, staff, families and the community to celebrate life, health and all those who are gone and will be loved forever. 

Join the Dia de los Muertos run-walk to raise funds to help children and families who can't afford health insurance get free care.

The event will feature a 5K and 10K family run and walk route with the option to participate virtually, plus a community health fair. Everyone can participate, from 0 to 99 years old.

All state and county COVID-19 safety procedures will be followed on race day, any changes will be closely monitored and adjustments will be made to ensure the event is safe for all participants. 

If any changes are made, the organizers will communicate with the participants.

Registration includes race entry, timing chip and number, medal at the end of the race, commemorative T-shirt and a Day of the Dead mask.

Those who have already registered can pick up their packet on Friday, October 29 from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm at 1621 Gold St. Alviso, CA 95002, or on race day at 7:00 am at the same address.

Organizers encourage participants to dress in Day of the Dead-related makeup and costumes, or wear the race T-shirt provided at packet pick-up.

In addition, participants may bring a copy of a photo of a deceased loved one ? 5" x 7" or smaller ? flowers, and other utensils ? except candles or open flame candles ? for the giant ofrenda on display. All items must be placed in the ofrenda by 7:30.

Due to COVID-19, items placed in the offering will not be returned and will be discarded. 

Tribute to COVID survivors

As a form of tribute to the survivors of the pandemic, they will be allowed to stand at the front of the starting chute.
