“We will always defend Mexicans,” says Claudia Sheinbaum on the announcement of Tom Homan as U.S. “border czar”

Border Tsar
After Trump announced that Tom Homan will be the "border czar," Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said that her government will defend Mexicans living in the United States.

Listen to this note:

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, made it clear that his government will defend Mexicans living in the United States, as they are also an economic engine for the neighboring country to the north, which as of January 2025 will be led by President-elect Donald Trump.

And it is that, on the night of this Sunday, November 10, Trump announced through his site Truth Social that Tom Homan, who previously served as acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), will be the "border czar" during his second term.

In light of this, the Mexican president stressed during her morning press conference at the National Palace that her government will take action on the matter and will seek to contact Donald Trump's transition team to find out what their actions will be and work in coordination.

"We are going to try to get in touch with President Donald Trump's transition team before he takes office. We will always defend the Mexicans who are on the other side of the border, because they are also necessary for the United States economy. We have data and we are going to provide information, but, in any case, it is important to get in touch, to know what they are thinking and to advance coordination as much as possible," he explained.

Homan, who will be in charge of the U.S. borders, will also oversee "maritime and air security," and "will be in charge of all deportation of illegal aliens back to their country of origin," Trump said.

The incoming border czar said in an interview that ICE would proceed to implement Trump's plans in a "humane" manner and that the military would not be used to locate and detain illegal immigrants in the United States.

"It's going to be a well-directed, well-planned operation, carried out by the men of ICE. The men and women of ICE do this every day. They're good at it," he said. "When we go out, we're going to know who we're looking for. We'll most likely know where they're going to be, and it's going to be done in a humane manner."

At the time, Donald Trump, 78, promised to launch, as soon as he takes office, the largest deportation operation of undocumented immigrants in the history of the United States.

Throughout his election campaign, Trump sowed fear and uncertainty among immigrants, especially those in the Latino community, exaggerating figures and going so far as to say that they "poison the country's blood."

The threats have not only been directed at undocumented immigrants, but he has also attacked those sheltered under reception programs, which he promised to put an end to.

Thus, Homan will become his right-hand man to carry out the actions he said he would promise to fulfill.

"I have a message for the millions of illegal immigrants Joe Biden has allowed into our country: Start packing your bags now," Honan said at the Republican National Convention in July.

It should be noted that Homan headed ICE during the first administration of Republican Donald Trump (2017-2021), during which nearly 4,000 immigrant children were separated from their parents and placed in detention in inhumane conditions.
