San Mateo Residents Called to Participate in Disaster Preparedness Day

Disaster Preparedness Day

Authorities have called on San Mateo County residents to participate in the 18th annual Disaster Preparedness Day on July 30 to learn about timely emergency response.

The free, family-friendly event, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the San Mateo County Event Center, will provide an opportunity to explore emergency response vehicles, meet bomb squad robots and attend first aid and CPR classes.

In addition, participants will be able to learn about community resources and more.

The event is organized by San Mateo County Supervisor Carole Groom with the support of the Department of Emergency Management.

During the event, eligible attendees will also be able to participate in the Stanford Blood Center's blood drive, for which an appointment is required. Interested attendees can check availability and register by contacting the Stanford Blood Center at click here.

Among the resources visitors will be able to visit will be tables from various organizations where they can learn more about what they need to prepare, what local resources are available in the event of a disaster and meet local first responders, from volunteers to professionals.

For those who need to purchase prevention equipment, there will be vendor tables facilitating the purchase of water filtration systems, first aid supplies, survival packs and even generators.

Solar solutions, fire extinguishers and possibly tents will also be offered.

If you are an organization that would like a resource table or are a retailer that would like space at the event, contact Susie Castoria through her mailing: SCastoria@smcgov.org.

The event is all ages, will feature free parking and free hot dogs. Emergency supplies will also be available for attendees.
