Gentleness and patience are two characteristics that are needed to teach kindergarten children to read and write, an activity that Michele Mairani has carried out for more than 22 years teaching at the Clifford School in Redwood City, California.
Given this, the Redwood City Public Library paid tribute on Friday, February 17, to the retirement of Professor Mairani, which consisted of a plaque and photograph in the place where she has most enjoyed her career, the reading area for children.
Said event was accompanied by a donation that will be used to finance the collection of books in the children's room.
A place where the teacher has developed a good part of her profession because during her career she turned that space for children's reading into a teaching room.
A regular reader since she was little, Mairani says that it was thanks to her grandmother's stories that she developed her love not only for reading but also for transmitting stories to the little ones.
A stage in which he affirms, is the most important to develop imagination and a taste for reading.
«I tell my students that it is like going to Disneyland, where you can take a book just for you, with a credential just for you, where they will write your name. There, in that building you can come and go freely and also, you can take your book home, "said Mairani.
The teacher tells, copying the tone of voice and gestures that she makes in front of the small children.
The event was attended by authorities of the institution as well as relatives of the honored professor.
