Agents of San Mateo Police Department ?SMPD, for its acronym in English? A man was arrested for theft of a vehicle and possession of a firearm after launching a manhunt against the 26-year-old Oakland resident.
On April 17, at approximately 8:42 p.m., SMPD officers learned of a stolen vehicle traveling west on Peninsula Avenue, later locating it parked on Woodside near Studio Circle, where officers attempted to contact the driver, but he fled.
Deputies began a pursuit as the suspect vehicle passed through San Mateo before heading south on US 101. The car exited at Ralston Avenue, then merged onto northbound US 101, and then proceeded to CA-92 east, they reported. The authorities.
Shortly after entering CA-92, the suspect vehicle experienced a mechanical failure and began to slow down. Just before the San Mateo bridge, he came out onto a Caltrans maintenance road.
SMPD officers initiated a high risk traffic stop. However, the suspect, later identified as Dajon Hardy, 26-year-old Oakland resident, got out of the vehicle with a white plastic bag in hand.
Hardy fled and ran east toward Highway 92. Deputies ran after him and tackled him as he attempted to jump a concrete traffic barrier and merge with oncoming traffic.
The suspect actively resisted the officers' attempt to handcuff him, but was apprehended without issue.
Shortly after handcuffing him, officers located a loaded handgun on the ground near the white plastic bag Hardy was carrying.
Officers ultimately took Hardy into custody and booked him into the San Mateo County Jail on multiple charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, felon in possession of a firearm, concealed weapon in a vehicle, non-owner in possession of a firearm, and resisting an agent, among others.
