Melissa Stevenson Diaz announced Wednesday the appointment of Jeff Schwob as director of Redwood City Community Development, who will be responsible for current and advanced planning, building and municipal code compliance, development services, as well as historical review and environmental.

The Community Development Department works to guide the physical growth, development and preservation of the city under the political direction of the City Council in conjunction with other local departments.

"In serving as Interim Director of Community Development, Jeff has brought more than 30 years of invaluable experience from Bay Area cities to Redwood City," said City Manager Melissa Stevenson Díaz. ?I am delighted that he is our director permanently; I know you will effectively lead and support our staff and connect well with a wide range of stakeholders.

Jeff's career began in Alameda County, with experience in San Rafael, Santa Rosa and Fremont, where he served as Director of Community Development. Since 2018, he has continued his public service with interim assignments, including as interim Community Development Director for Walnut Creek and, most recently, holding the same position in Redwood City.

Throughout his career, Jeff has earned wide recognition for his genius as a creative problem solver, his exceptional management skills, and his role as a mentor dedicated to nurturing talent and continuous improvement.

The city noted that Schwob has particular strengths in urban planning, architectural design and public engagement, as well as extensive experience in all aspects of community development.

Jeff Schwob has a bachelor's degree in Architecture from the University of Oregon.

“I look forward to continuing to serve the vibrant Redwood City community, leveraging my experience to guide and contribute to its growth and preservation,” Schwob said.
