Redwood City School District Superintendent John Baker warned of a "challenge" circulating on social media as "TikTok" that encourages people to carry out acts of violence against schools across the country this Friday, Dec. 17, calling on Bay Area parents to be vigilant.

Faced with the "challenge" that has been detected in social networks nationwide, said there are no direct or specific threats against any school in the Redwood City School District (RCSD, for its acronym in English).

However, he explained that there is already contact with the local police department, which he said is monitoring social media activity.

He also said that on Thursday, thanks to the Northern California Regional Intelligence Center (NCRIC), they were able to learn that there are no known direct or specific threats against schools in San Mateo County.

"I urge you to take this opportunity to talk to your children about the appropriate use of social media and the consequences of making any kind of threat," the superintendent stressed.

"Encourage your children to talk to you or a trusted adult at school if they see or hear anything suspicious so that immediate action can be taken," he added.

While the school district has not received threats, he said, "I am confident in our ability to address it in partnership with law enforcement agencies. We plan for tomorrow to be a day of teaching and learning from start to finish."

Other Bay Area school districts have joined the call, including Santa Clara County, Mt. Diablo and Pleasanton Unified School Districts.

However, in other states of the country has been encouraged, in the same way, in social networks, that young people and children stay home this Friday, December 17, in order to avoid chaos and situations that could get out of control.

Schools and police departments have taken the "challenge" and threats seriously, and will be looking for increased police presence in school zones.
