Christina Corpus ahead in San Mateo County Sheriff's race

Preliminary results put the virtual San Mateo County sheriff as Christina CorpusHowever, there are still many ballots to be counted, as the mail-in ballots received on Friday, June 3, through Election Day and the following days have not yet been counted.

With a percentage of votes of 54.36 percent - 30,503 - against 45.62 percent - 25,600 - of those obtained by his opponent and current county sheriff, Carlos Bolaños, Corpus takes the lead in the race.

While election night results may differ from the final tally, an estimated number of ballots remaining to be processed will be released this Wednesday night.

Results include ballots collected at the polling place, vote-by-mail ballots returned to polling places and drop boxes on or before Thursday, June 2.

However, they do not include vote-by-mail ballots received by mail or delivered to polling places or drop boxes after Thursday, June 2.

Corpus has not made any statement so far on his virtual triumph through any platform or social network. 

The Millbrae police chief, who has 21 years of law enforcement and security experience holding positions as lieutenant, commander, captain and chief, said during her campaign that, should she become San Mateo County sheriff, she will seek to focus on protecting the community from violent crime, auto theft and residential burglaries.

In turn, he said, rebuild relationships with the immigrant community to restore trust with the Sheriff's Office; innovate use of force policies and adopt new technologies to reduce lethal force situations; and move to performance-based training standards with measurable results, providing feedback, tools and skills development to produce the best outcomes.

He also noted that he will implement training programs to better serve community members with developmental and mental health issues; support the maintenance of the law enforcement workforce in San Mateo County to build stronger relationships and instill ownership in the communities we serve.

Finally, he stressed that he will lead a culture change from the mentality of a law enforcement warrior to that of a guardian.
