California Attorney General, Rob Bonta, announced the arrests of 17 members of Northern California crime organizations on felony charges as a result of a multi-agency, multi-agency investigation of rival crime syndicates operating throughout Northern California.

Authorities allege these groups are responsible for numerous violent crimes and shootings, including five attempted murders, in Sutter, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Solano, Yolo and Merced counties.

Among the alleged criminal acts, members of these groups were allegedly involved in a mass shooting at a Stockton Sikh temple that occurred on August 27, 2022, and another at a Sacramento Sikh temple on March 23, 2023. .

During the investigation, law enforcement was able to prevent two additional shootings.

"California is safer today because of the collaboration, determination and swift action of Department of Justice agents and our law enforcement partners in Sutter County," said Attorney General Rob Bonta. "No family should have to worry about shootings or other forms of gun violence in the neighborhoods where their children live and play."

As a result of this joint enforcement effort, Bonta said, “we are taking guns off the street and jailing suspected gang members and their associates. Together, we are putting public safety first. Thank you to our law enforcement partners across the state for working with us every day to protect the people of California."

The investigation began in February 2023, as part of a cooperative effort with the Yuba Sutter Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Task Force ?NET-5?, the Yuba City Police Department, the Special Operations Unit of the Department of California Justice ?DOJ?, the California Highway Patrol ?CHP? in its Special Operations Unit, Homeland Security Investigations, US Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Sutter County District Attorney's Office.

During the investigation, the CHP, Woodland Police Department, Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, Merced County Sheriff's Office, Vacaville Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Special Investigations Unit of Stanislaus and various local, state and federal task forces provided assistance.
