During the month of August, the Redwood City Police Department confiscated three firearms from juveniles in three separate incidents. While there does not appear to be any connection between the incidents at this time, in total, six juveniles and three adults have been arrested or charged with charges stemming from illegal firearms possession.

Local authorities noted that August "was a busy month" in this regard, which has raised alerts.

Most of the firearms seized were stolen or unregistered "ghost guns" - a gun that lacks a serial number and is usually assembled by the user.

Eleven cities in the Bay Area set record high temperatures on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Livermore took top honors with the record high temperature of 116 degrees, which broke not only the daily record for September 5, but also the highest temperature ever recorded in that city. The previous all-time high was 115 recorded in 1950 and the previous record for September 5 was 108 recorded, also recorded in 1950.

Highs at Gilroy and Santa Rosa reached 112, which set records for the date and month. Gilroy's high tied its September record set in 2017 and 2020.

Eight other cities experienced record heat for the date, ranging from 109 in Napa to 97 in San Francisco.

A federal jury on Monday convicted the president of a Silicon-Valley-based medical technology company of a scheme involving false and fraudulent COVID-19 claims.

Mark Schena, 59, of Los Altos, was the president of Arrayit Corporation and participated in a scheme to defraud the company's investors. Schena claimed he had invented a "revolutionary" technology to detect virtually any disease using just a few drops of blood, a claim similar to that of disgraced Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes, who was also convicted of defrauding investors with the same claim.

Schena will be sentenced on January 30, 2023 and faces a maximum of 65 years in federal prison.
