A teenager suspected of trying to recruit other students to participate in a shooting or bombing at Berkeley High School was arrested this week after turning himself in, police said Wednesday.

Authorities reported that they received a tip on May 21, which prompted a search of the 16-year-old's home, where they found explosive components and assault rifles, several knives and electronic items that could be used to create additional weapons.

According to a police press release, investigators from the juvenile services unit took over the investigation and detectives interviewed witnesses, reviewed evidence and ultimately obtained a warrant for the teen's arrest.

The teen turned himself in to Berkeley police on Monday and was arrested on suspicion of possessing destructive device materials and threatening to commit a crime that will result in death or serious bodily injury.

San Francisco police said Thursday they will march in the city's annual Gay Pride Parade after reaching an agreement with parade organizers who had previously said officers could not wear their uniforms at the event.

The San Francisco Police Officers' Pride Alliance reached an agreement with Pride organizers who had voted in 2020 to ban officers in uniform after a summer of nationwide protests against police brutality.

The police, who were joined by city firefighters and sheriff's deputies in saying they would not participate in the parade because of politics, will now be part of a contingent of first responders who will participate in the parade along with Mayor London Breed.
