Following a joint investigation with school officials, police arrested a student from Palo Alto High School 17 years old for publishing a note threatening a shooting at the school, which caused the temporary closure of the study center and the mobilization of authorities.

On Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at around 8:57 a.m., the local police dispatch center received a call from administrators at Palo Alto High School located at 50 Embarcadero Road, reporting a suspicious circumstance.

A teacher had arrived at the school that morning and discovered a written threat of violence taped to the front door of the classroom, which indicated that the person who left the note intended to "shoot" the classroom later. that morning.

It should be noted that a final exam was scheduled for later that morning in that same classroom.

Police worked closely with school administrators, who opted to place the campus in a "shelter-in-place state" as a precaution until around 10:30 a.m. when the preliminary investigation concluded.

Over the next two days, officials and school officials worked together to investigate the case in an attempt to identify the person responsible.

Finally, this Thursday afternoon, that investigation culminated in the identification of a 17-year-old Palo Alto High School student as a suspect.

The officers arrested the student for criminal threats ?a felony? and left him in the custody of his relatives.

There is no evidence that the student ever had access to a firearm. In accordance with Palo Alto Police's standard release of information procedures, no additional information is available on the suspect as he is under 18 years of age.

Authorities asked that anyone with information about this incident call the 24-hour dispatch center at (650) 329-2413. Anonymous tips can be emailed to paloalto@tipnow.org or sent via text or voicemail to (650) 383-8984.
