Deadline extended for food program for seniors in San Mateo

Pamela Cruz. Peninsula 360 Press [P360P].

The extension of the Great Plates Delivered program through March 2021 for seniors in San Mateo County was approved.

In this way, seniors in need will have access to 18 delicious and nutritious meals delivered weekly and free of charge by local restaurants, directly to their doorsteps.

Notably, food delivery is done in a safe, non-contact manner, at a time when shopping and preparing meals on their own for older adults can be a challenge, while keeping them safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some of the criteria to enroll in the program are being over 65 years of age; or being between 60 and 64 years of age, and who have been exposed to the virus or have COVID-19, or who have underlying health conditions.

In addition to living alone or with another adult eligible for the program, not receiving meals from another state program, not having friends or relatives who can provide assistance with meals, not being able to shop for groceries, and having an income of less than $74,940 per person.

If eligible, interested parties should call (800) 675-8437 and speak with county staff - who are fluent in several languages - to apply for meal delivery services.

For restaurants that are interested in signing up for the program and helping seniors in need, you can register through the following website https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SMCGreatPlates_Delivered and https://covid19.ca.gov/es/restaurants-deliver-home-meals-for-seniors/
