authorities of Santa Clara have issued an alert to their residents due to a growing number of telephone scams, where fraudsters impersonate members of the local Police Department.

Through a statement, the Santa Clara Police Department detailed that it continues to receive reports from community members about telephone scammers posing as police personnel.

In some cases, he said, scammers will falsify the exact number of a public safety department to disguise their identity and attempt to extort people by claiming that there is an active arrest warrant.

As a reminder, the Santa Clara police reminded that they will never ask you for payment or money over the phone.

Given this, the authorities requested that, if you receive one of these phone calls, hang up immediately and call the department directly at 408-615-4700.
