Listen to this note:
Because Roblox Is it so popular with children? If you are a parent or uncle of a child, you have surely heard about Roblox, parents in Redwood City have asked me this question directly.
I took on the task of creating an account to give you my opinion on the matter.
Essentially, Roblox is a video game platform, not a video game itself. We can explain it better if we compare it with YouTube; In the same way that people around the world use this platform to create videos and share them with their audience, in the same way Roblox, because on it you can share simple video games created with the editor it offers.
This is exactly its potential and greatest attraction, the number of games available on the platform is simply infinite, as long as there are people interested in developing them.
The first game I tried was a horror game, clearly inspired by Amnesia, the dark descent, in which players interact in a main lobby and then form pairs to explore a mansion and try to progress by searching for keys and opening doors.
The second was a shooting game inspired by Counter Strike, it consisted of eliminating the enemy team to score points and, despite my training in “the dust” years ago, I could not win any game.
Doing a quick scan of the games available, it is clear that many of the most popular are replicas or copies of other, popular franchises. Poking through the entire list reminds me of the feeling you get rummaging through a pile of used toys at a flea market or goodwill.
It should be noted that the game has a monetization system in which you can buy fictitious currency called ROBUX, this is used to purchase clothing, accessories, or for certain interactions in the games themselves.
However, in my latest game, which is advertised as a role-playing game, although it is more of a virtual chat room, one of my first interactions was receiving a message from another player with a female avatar saying that she was looking for “cute guys” or “Cute boys.” Nothing particularly malicious, but definitely uncomfortable.
I can see exactly why kids love Roblox, it's like having access to a bottomless trunk full of toys and their favorite characters.
I would also like to remind our audience that no online game is one hundred percent safe for children.
On the other hand, it is not possible to deprive them of access to online interaction in the digital age. That is why, the most important thing, regardless of the game, platform or social network that your children use, is to build trust with them so that they come to you if something strange happens, instill digital safety lessons in them as soon as they have access to the internet, but Above all, be attentive and involved in your children's hobbies.
