Want to help on the front lines of democracy? The San Mateo County Registration and Elections Division is seeking candidates for numerous offices during the upcoming election to be held on November 8.

Poll workers can earn $22.30 per hour to start as an office assistant helping with the run-up to the election.

Numerous other short-term paid positions are also available to help conduct a fair, accurate, secure and transparent election, the county said in a statement.

Among those positions are Voting Center Representative at $22.30 per hour; Warehouse and Field Technician $26.37 per hour; and Office Specialist $26.77 per hour.

It should be noted that several positions require fluency in English, as well as in Burmese, Cantonese, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish and/or Tagalog and Filipino.

Under the Voter's Choice Act, Vote Centers replace traditional polling places, which are open countywide until one month before Election Day.

All positions are paid, even "polling place volunteers" can earn a stipend of up to $280 for working on Election Day and attending a training session.

Other positions have immediate openings for office hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The county has stressed that anyone can apply for these important positions. The examination process will consist of a screening of applications, followed by a departmental interview.

To apply, interested parties can visit the following website https://www.smcacre.org/elections/election-jobs.

If you do not have a computer, you can access one for free at any San Mateo County library.

It should be noted that last September 20 was the National Voter Registration Day, so if you are not registered it is not too late and you can do so by accessing the following web site http://registertovote.ca.gov to register.
