One of the most anticipated days for boys and adults has arrived. It's finally Halloween, and various county authorities made recommendations so that the thousands of children who will go trick-or-treating today have a special, fun and, above all, safe Halloween in San Mateo.

Police departments in several cities across the county have suggested telling your children that they should never enter a stranger's home while trick-or-treating, as doing so can lead to situations that put children at risk.

They have also asked drivers to slow down and be more attentive to pedestrians, especially those who may run out into the street unexpectedly.

Trick-or-treaters should carry a flashlight or glow stick and cross the street at well-lit intersections, using traffic signals and crosswalks where available, and not between parked cars, they said.

In the same way, they suggest that mothers and fathers inspect all candies and sweets before allowing children to eat them, due to suspicions or fear that children may be harmed with substances that could be put in the candies.

On the other hand, authorities recommend choosing a "safe costume": one that is easily visible in low-light situations or has reflective material—can you always add reflective tape to a costume or candy bag?—and one that fits you well enough. good enough not to hinder movement.

It should be noted that, in different media, the terrifying warning to parents for the so-called "rainbow fentanyl" has circulated. A colorful drug the size of a candy could circulate during this day, so parents have been asked to be vigilant or not allow children to consume candy from strangers.

And it is that, in social networks and even congressmen have warned about the possibility of drug traffickers circulating the addictive and potentially deadly synthetic opioid along with Halloween candy.

DEA Administrator Anne Milgram recently called rainbow fentanyl "a deliberate effort by drug dealers to create addiction among children and young adults."

Given this, the authorities also advise preventing children from asking for sweets alone; so they should always be accompanied by a parent or trusted responsible adult and stay together.

It doesn't hurt to make sure kids know your cell phone number and home address in case you get separated.

Have a great Halloween!
