Man arrested in San Mateo after attacking father seeking to protect his daughter

The Department of San Mateo Police arrested a resident after he brandished a knife and struck a father with his vehicle after he followed the victim's daughter in his car.

The events occurred last Sunday, July 30 at 1:00 p.m. A father and daughter contacted San Mateo Police Department officers to report that the man was attacked with a deadly weapon.

During the investigation, officers learned that the daughter called her father because she was being followed by a black car. While on the phone with her, the father drove to her location and saw that the vehicle was still following her. When everyone stopped for a red light at East Hillsdale Blvd and Curtiss St, the father got out of his car and confronted the driver of the black vehicle.

The driver brandished a knife and threatened the father. The suspect then got into his vehicle and drove toward the father, who was struck by the car and rolled onto the hood of the car, the San Mateo Police Department said in a statement.

San Mateo police continued the investigation and were able to identify 24-year-old Thomas German as the driver of the black vehicle. German was later located inside his car, parked near the intersection of Lodi Ave and Norton St, where he was arrested without incident.

In the arrest the knife used during the crime was recovered. German was later booked into the San Mateo County Jail.

Authorities reminded that being a good witness means not putting yourself or others in danger. Given this, it is opportune to remain calm enough to call the police and provide critical information. It is best not to confront or get involved in a conflict with the suspect.

Be a good witness and call the police at (650) 522-7700 or call or text 911 for emergencies.
