Brazilian research group warns of complicity of US officials in genocide in Gaza

The Research Group on New Latin American Constitutionalism and Decolonization of Human Rights Law Federal University of Latin American Integration (UNILA), in Brazil, warned of complicity of US officials in the genocide being carried out in the Gaza Strip against the Palestinian people.

In that sense, and as part of a university institution dedicated to academic exchange and international solidarity cooperation, and whose mission is to build dialogues between knowledge based on ethical principles to guarantee decent living conditions and global social justice, the research group considered it essential take a position regarding the genocide in Gaza.

In this sense, he said, the Castro Valley People's Court, focused on the complicity of US Congressman Eric Swalwell, "constitutes a fundamental global precedent for countries to observe acts of complicity with genocide beyond the figures of their heads of state." ?. 

Furthermore, he explained in a statement, "that his Community Education Campaign in Gaza, based on the teachings of Paulo Freire, expands the dimensions of community work to international solidarity, which can greatly inspire other places and initiatives."

The group pointed out that, recently, in Brazil, although President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, as head of state, took a forceful and explicit position regarding the Palestinian genocide, local leaders, such as the governors of the states of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, and Goias, Ronaldo Caiado, practiced various acts of complicity with the genocide, culminating in their visit to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on March 19. 

These acts, he stressed, "seem to indicate a violation of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide."

The Research Group on New Latin American Constitutionalism and Decolonization of Law of the Federal University of Latin American Integration (UNILA), brings together academics, undergraduate and graduate students and professors from this university, as well as collaborators from other institutions in Brazil and abroad, with the purpose of connecting research, practices and reflections on constituent issues, democratic processes and human rights.
